Unique Days Out & Things To Do In Winter
Although the days are short, nature keeps on giving. On crisp, cold days, the stillness of the air seems to heighten our senses, and things to do in winter include witnessing miraculous icicles, snow-topped vistas and glorious sunsets. And with the trees bare, it’s much easier to spot wildlife – and the evidence it leaves in tracks on frost-covered ground. Sounds are clearer in winter too: the drumming of woodpeckers, the call of tawny owls. But spring is never far away, heralded by the flowering snowdrops.

Weather tips
No matter how cold it is, with warm, waterproof clothing and a flask of something hot, almost any winter day outdoors is enjoyable. But keep an eye on the forecast – don’t stay out if the weather’s due to turn. And keep away from high or remote areas unless you have the right gear and experience.
