New Forest Walking Tour 

Wild New Forest offer guided wildlife walks in the New Forest National Park, led by friendly and expert local guides. In the heart of southern England, the New Forest is home to a hidden world of majestic ancient trees, prehistoric plants and an abundance of spectacular fungi, where eagles soar and pine martens and otters emerge at night, and where five species of wild deer mingle with free-roaming ponies, cattle, donkeys and pigs.

These walking tours explore this hidden world and investigate the special qualities of the New Forest, including the fascinating local history and wide array of specialist wildlife that call the forest its home. Suitable for beginners and experts alike, the tours are carefully designed to showcase the best natural spectacles that the New Forest has to offer, whilst also being informative and fun!

Equipment needed: Please wear stout footwear and dress for the weather conditions. Please also bring water, a snack and sun cream.

Weather: Wild New Forest will cancel the walk if conditions are forecast to be dangerous or unsuitable for viewing wildlife.  

Parking: Car parking is available.

Food and Drink: Customers need to bring their own snacks and drink; facilities are available throughout the New Forest.

Toilets: Available at the start of some walks, although there are no facilities along the route.

Additional Info: Group sizes for scheduled tours are currently limited to 12 guests to ensure social distancing is maintained and for optimal wildlife viewing. Wild New Forest have also completed a detailed COVID-19 risk assessment to ensure the safety of clients and other forest users. Wild New Forest are committed to encouraging young wildlife enthusiasts and will therefore be accepting children aged ten and under at no charge on most of the walks. Dogs are also welcome on walking tours.

The 'Welcome to the New Forest' tours offer an introduction to the New Forest, its wildlife, history and people. While regular New Forest Discovery tours operate out of the main New Forest hubs of Lyndhurst and Lymington; these hubs all have suitable infrastructure and facilities including public toilets and cycle hire outlets. All tours utilise good-quality forest tracks and are between 1.5 to 3 hours in duration. New Forest Explorer tours access a wider range of New Forest locations, focussing on seasonal highlights, and are typically three hours in duration.
