Introduction

‘The ship that never sailed’
Depart from Edinburgh to head to Blackness Castle on the Firth of Forth. This familiar fortress to fans of Outlander will see it as it stood in ‘Fort William.’ Climb the towers for panoramic views out to sea.

Linlithgow Palace.
Follow in the footsteps of royalty who broke up their journey between Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle. Step inside the ruins of this Renaissance residence of the Stewart kings and the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.

The Kelpies
Driving along towards Stirling prepare to pass two 30 metre tall horse head sculptures, the largest equine statue in the world and a feat of man's engineering.

Storm the gates at Doune Castle

Climb the battlements and admire the views of the River Teith and surrounding hills. Walk in the footsteps of rulers both real and fictional. Featured on screen in Monty Python, Game of Thrones, and Outlander, this medieval courtyard castle is great for fans. Take a midday rest or stop for lunch at Bridge of Allan, a former spa town at the foot of the Ochil Hills.

Pay homage to a great Scottish hero.
See where William Wallace had his great victory at Stirling bridge, where The Wallace Monument overlooks the site of the battlefield. Climb to the top of the spiral staircase to reach ‘the crown’ and admire the stunning views of the surrounding hills and countryside.

Bannockburn exhibition
3D technology brings this thrilling chapter of Scotland’s story to life. Continue on to see the statue of Robert the Bruce and find out more about another Scottish hero.

If there’s time left
Pop into the Deanston distillery on the way back home. The former cotton mill stands by the River Teith. Sample some of the hand-crafted single malt.

Then it’s time to return home.
Our Stirling tour shows you don’t have to travel far to experience the wonders of Scotland.
