Introduction

Climb Cornwall is built on a love of adventuring on the moors, mountains and sea cliffs that make up our playground, along with the friendships the team makes with all the fantastic people they meet along the way!

This climbing experience allows customers to develop and grow, whether you’re taking your first steps into the world of vertical adventures, or developing your skills to become an independently competent climber in your own right.

Your climbing adventure will begin with a conversation in advance to make sure you are provided with an appropriate level of challenge for you and your group, that the very best venue is chosen, and if there is anything extra you need to support your participation.

The Climb Cornwall team strives to ensure equitable access to the amazing activities and environments that they themselves love - they have a wealth of experience of delivering tailor-made adventures for all abilities, and specialist experience within the team of working with people with disabilities and impairments.

You’ll meet your guide in the morning for a welcome talk and safety brief - this is a great chance to soak up the scenery and get in the mood for a day out in the natural environment.

You may need some specialist training in the ropework techniques that will be used to make sure you are ready for the adventures ahead! Everything you do on the day will be under the supervision of Climb Cornwall's staff, however they will try to make you as independent as it is safe for you to be all the way through.

Climb Cornwall's aim is to help you safely experience places you wouldn’t usually be able to get to - depending on your aims and abilities, your adventure will be built travelling primarily in ascent, primarily in descent, or in a mix of both. You don’t need to be an expert climber, but a good head for heights may be beneficial!

During your experience, you will scramble around on rough terrain, climb up some rocky steps and abseil down some steep drops - these will all be introduced progressively, with the expert guides adjusting the level of challenge to make sure it remains exciting but fun throughout the whole adventure.

You'll stop at a suitable point for a bite to eat, so make sure you bring some yummy snacks - this could be a relaxed mid-journey break, or lunch on a ludicrous ledge depending on how you’re feeling at the time!

Why this experience is great for you

  • See the world from a unique perspective. Despite these being popular destinations, fewer than 1% of visitors to the South West will get to see it the way you will!
  • Explore your limits. Whether this is a test of your courage or an opportunity to learn new skills, the cliffs have always been a place for challenge and excitement.
  • It’s a great adventure. Experiences that are outside of your normal routine are always formative, so this is a fantastic opportunity to explore your own feelings or to share the journey with your friends and family.
  • Get away from it all. The hustle and bustle of the real world seems far away when you’re in the middle of nature (and in the middle of a cliff!). The peace and tranquility does need to be experienced to be believed.
  • Your guides will do their best to share all they know about the beautiful environments and ecosystems that you're travelling through - if you have any questions about the land, plants or animals you may see, just ask!

Facilities and additional information

Equipment needed: Climb Cornwall anticipate going out whatever the weather! You will need to bring suitable clothing to stay warm and dry in the current and forecast conditions. Cliff faces can be windy, even on sunny days, so a warm layer and trousers/leggings (not shorts) are advisable.

You will need suitable footwear that can be securely attached and you don’t mind getting dirty. (Sandals, flip-flops, crocs and other open-toed footwear are not appropriate).

During your adventure, you'll likely not return to the car until the end - so you will have to carry everything you want with you! This includes medications, cameras, spare layers and food/drink. You will need the use of both hands, so make sure you have a rucksack - these can be lent if required.

Weather:If the conditions mean that your session cannot be run safely, you will be offered alternative venues, activities or dates if possible.

Food & drink: This is an active session - you will need to make sure you bring enough food and drink to stay hydrated and keep your energy levels up for 4-6 hours of activity.

Meeting points & parking:

BOSIGRAN: Meet at Carn Galver Engine House car park. Google maps plus code: 59CP+QV Penzance

THE DEWERSTONE: Meet at the Shaugh Bridge carpark. Google maps plus code: FW3M+H3 Plymouth

Facilities: There are no shops, public toilets or any other facilities available at the venues used - please come prepared to spend 4-6 hours in the great outdoors.

Under 18’s: Under 18s are welcomed on these adventures, and can be tailored to make them more appropriate for younger participants. The parent or legal guardian of each under 18 must be present and participating in the activity.

Pricing & adventure length: Bespoke pricing is available for families and groups - please contact Climb Cornwall directly for a quotation. Sessions can also be tailored to suit your group and while the typical experience length is 4-6 hours, it is suggested that under 11s may wish to opt for a shorter adventure.

Fitness & mobility: These adventures do not require you to be an expert climber or super-fit fell runner and can be tailored to reduce (or increase!) the level of physical challenge as required. However, you will need to be comfortable walking/moving over uneven and rough terrain, hanging in a harness and be happy with physical challenge, comparable to climbing a vertical ladder with your rucksack on.

Inclusive & accessible adventures: Climb Cornwall are proud to have never turned away a customer due to a declared condition, impairment or disability - they’ve facilitated experiences for clients with sensory impairments, delivered climbing & abseiling activities for participants with physical impairments (including chair users), and have experience working with clients of all ages with cognitive impairments and autistic spectrum conditions.

In order to adapt their adventures, Climb Cornwall may choose to alter venues, increase staffing levels, or use specialist techniques and equipment to assist a participant - these adaptions will vary entirely on the needs of each person, so please contact them to discuss what they can do to get you out on your adventure.

Please note that all Climb Cornwall experiences are bespoke - so contact them today to start the conversation!
