Chawton Park Woods
Alton, Hampshire
At A Glance
Just beyond Chawton, these woods hold some towering beach trees, Norway maples and Whitebeam's. A tranquil setting for a walk on accessible paths, follow Jane Austen's footsteps, as she did when she walked these paths. Edward Austen Knight, provided his mother and sisters a house in Chawton, where Jane spent a majority of her productive literary years. This red brick house held the tales that would eventually enrapture the world and where she would draw from her surrounding woods for inspiration.
