Black Rocks
At A Glance
Part of Cromford Moor, this wood is named after the gritstone outcrop and managed in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Countryside Service. Located in a place with amazing vistas of Derwent Valley, the hill Black Rocks sits on was originally mined for lead which has grown an array of evolved plants. Interesting for scientists, or those with a keen eye for rocks and minerals or interesting habitats, it's built near a boundary of limestone and gritstone. This woodland offers two trails and an orienteering course and somewhere climbers love. Used by activity providers, please contact the team for information on permits.
