For a relaxing stroll through the woodlands, the flat nature of Allerthorpe is great! Teeming with wildlife, particularly insects, be on the lookout! Consider yourself lucky if you see one, they are shy, but they like to sunbathe from the mid-morning to the early afternoon through Spring and Autumn.
Part of the nature reserve is leased to the Yorkshire wildlife trust, and the whole woods are managed to ensure it keeps its beautiful biodiversity.
Please be aware that the area is not suitable for off-road cycling.

- Equipment needed: to make sure you enjoy your visit, wear comfortable shoes suitable for all terrains, and weather-appropriate clothing.
- Parking: The roads through Allerthorpe Woods are public highways. Wagon access is required at all times and the route must not be obstructed. The most appropriate parking for the woodland is along Common Lane. There are no parking charges at Allerthorpe Wood.
