Situated in East Sussex, Abbot's Wood is a wonderful backdrop for your next walk, whether your bring your children to the play area, follow the trails, walk beside the lake, or indulge in the picnic areas and barbecues.

Flourishing with wildlife, from Dormice and almost 30 different Butterfly species to the summer Bats, Glow Worms and Nightjar's. You won't be short of wildlife to try and spot!

Hire a barbecue at Abbot's Wood

Don't just enjoy a walk at Abbot's Wood, enjoy some tasty food and good company with it's barbecue hire and picnic tables. There are three barbecues available for booking, one is more suitable for large groups. Home brought, portable or disposable barbecues are not allowed. 

Hire is £33 and able to be hired in every season, parking fees apply, please bring your own charcoal and tools. 

To keep our Woods safe from fire please do not bring any other barbecues in, or leave it unattended. Bring lots of water for extinguishing after use, take all litter home, and do not use any forest wood for barbecue fuel. Open fires are not permitted, further terms and conditions can be found here.

Horse riding at Abbot's Wood

Abbot's Woods boasts a wonderful range of scenic routes through the woodland habitats. Off-bridleway is limited to certain routes and only for TROT members. There is a public bridleway and TROT routes (not exclusive to horse riders)

Horse riding is only allowed on site with a TROT membership or pass. (please visit website for more details. Display your permit when riding and use the map given to you after your membership purchase.

Parking
TROT membership also includes exclusive horse box parking. Members will get access codes to reach these deboxing areas. No horsebox parking is permitted in our car parks. 
The trails are all surfaced with gravel.

  • Accessibility: Dogs and assistant dogs allowed, accessible trails but may get muddy in winter months.
  • Toilets: On site 
  • Equipment needed: to make sure you enjoy your visit, wear comfortable shoes suitable for all terrains, and weather-appropriate clothing.
  • Dogs are welcome: Professional dog walkers are permitted to use the sites providing they adhere to best practice, are fully insured and have adequate risk assessments in place.
